do they think?

"Oh I just couldn't cope!"
I heard again today
From one of those mothers,
you know, the ones who say
"How do you do it? For I never could!"
What do they think?
If I had a choice I would
choose to have my baby
taken from me this way?
Do they think I had less hope,
or that my heart is not broken?
Do they think that I'm stronger,
or maybe less outspoken?
Don't they know, I didn't choose
between holding on and letting loose?
I, too want my baby near
but instead, I have to hear
"Oh, I just couldn't cope!"
What do they think
When they say those words to me?
Don't they know that in my shoes
they'd cope, and then they'd see
it's not what you choose,
you do it out of need.
Sure you cry and think of dying,
but you cope, without even trying!
